Access Data
The main entry point for browsing data sets is the Web Business Data Shop. Many frontend tools can create a direct connection to the Data Virtuality LDW via one of the provided protocols, including JDBC or ODBC.
What is the Web Business Data Shop
The Web Business Data Shop is a web-based central place to get an overview of available data sets.

It shows the following information for each published data set:
- Name of the data set: Also includes the schema the data set resides in (e.g. the data set
accounting_data
is part of theAnaCredit
schema) - Description: A short description of the data set
- Owner: Information on who is responsible for the data set
- Icons to open the data set in different tools or download it
How to access it
The Web Business Data Shop can be accessed using your browser. Please ask your administrator for credentials and location.
Direct Connection To The LDW
Instead of querying data sets from the Web Business Data Shop, many tools can also connect to the LDW directly, e.g. Excel, Power BI or Tableau. You can find more details in our Getting Started For Data Management Professionals course.
Questions and Answers
Question | Answer |
---|---|
My dataset is not listed, how can it be added? | The data set needs to be published by the Data Architect and you need the permissions to access it. |
My dataset is coming in too slow, how can I speed up the query process? | There are different options to increase performance for the Data Architect, such as persisting it. |
My data set is missing columns – how can I add them? | If you have permission to edit the data set, this is possible using the DV Web Editor (see the next lesson). Otherwise, please approach the data set owner. |
Do all options to open the data set via icons contain an extract? | This may vary, some options contain extracts (currently CSV and Excel) while others let you connect directly to the LDW with no extract. |
